Backstory: Lord Anthony Aloysius Singeon Wyngarde, you can just call him Wyngarde, he doesn't stand on ceremony, honestly, is from a moderately noble family. As is always the way in aristocratic families, the firstborn is raised to inherit the title, while the second child is useful in case anything happens to the firstborn but is usually sent off to have a military career. The third child, should there be one, is commonly ushered into the clergy.
Wyngarde is his parent's fourth son and proved to be a complete wastrel, to the surprise of no one whatsoever. Expelled from various schools as a child, the only thing he ever showed any aptitude for was magic, but he was too lazy to ever invest any time in learning or studying. He spent most of his young adulthood drinking, gambling and womanizing, and burnt through whatever inheritance he had extremely quickly. He ran up huge debts that he had absolutely no intent of ever paying and with most of his family disowning him, ended up exiled from polite society, forced into a life of adventuring just to earn a little money (plus keeping one step ahead of creditors doesn't hurt).
A few years ago he conned his way into a school of sorcery, in the hopes of finding a way of creating wealth out of nothing. However, as Wyngarde will always take the easy way out of everything if possible, he just ended up making a deal with a devil rather than studying and promptly got thrown out of the school. (Still, at least that meant he didn't have to pay the exorbitant term fees the wizards were charging...)
Since then he's been surviving on his wits and his charm, neither of which are as impressive as he'd like to think. Now he's an aging lothario and an unremittent coward, but he has a heart of gold... somewhere... maybe in the window of a pawn shop back in the city.
