Biography

Born 23 years ago in a small town called Marnoch on the borderlands, Verney was the third son of a cleric of Pelor. His father, Seebor, was a highly regarded and wealthy man in Marnoch as was to be expected in his position at the heart of this small community. The town, situated as it was on the edge of the vast dense forest which formed a part of the border for a distance of 75 miles, was a natural home for woodcutters and carpenters and had thrived for many hundreds of years….

….until 5 years ago, that is. At the outbreak of the Orc Wars, the otherwise unremarkable Marnoch achieved renown as the first town to be destroyed by the invading orcs. Unprepared and almost completely undefended, the residents were killed without exception.

Verney was fortunate to have been over 200 miles away from Marnoch at the time, engaged in the long preparation for his own vocation in the chief temple to Pelor, and to follow in the “family business”. He achieved this aim shortly after hearing of his family’s murder and worked tirelessly in helping to overcome the orcs for the following 4 years.

Mainly as a result of his understandably personal hatred for the orcs, Verney achieved high renown within his order for his actions during the war and has recently been asked to perform more specialized services for the church. Ordered to form a party to undertake another special mission, Verney was fortunate to meet with a wizard who offered to help him to gather the best people together. As the wizard is highly respected for his magery, Verney accepted this assistance immediately with great thanks.

Unfortunately, since their first meeting, the wizard (who is as crazy as a loon in all matters not related to magery, it appears) has taken to believing that Verney is a long-lost servant and has begun to treat him accordingly. Assessing the situation shrewdly, Verney has determined that to disabuse the wizard of his belief might result in losing the services of a powerful mage, plus his assistance in forming the party. Despite never having previously met this mage in any capacity in his lifetime, Verney would be grateful if the other members of the party did nothing that may cause him to leave.

I won’t tell him if you don’t…..
