Colossus of the Drylands

The party rolled into Willens Gulch like a dust‑coated parade of misfits, each wearing their own version of Wild West flair. Kit Moody led the way—swaggering, hat low, rifle Ralph slung over one shoulder and lasso Lassie coiled at her hip. Bully the Wug, a frog‑ranger and proud horse‑mom to Pollywog, followed with a calm, watchful gait. Gentleman George, a cigar‑chewing gorilla squeezed into a suit two sizes too small, lumbered behind them, and Corjan Littleflame, a purple‑and‑gold sorcerer‑cowgirl in a star‑spangled duster and pointed boots, brought a flash of impossible color to the dusty street.

Their first stop was the saloon: swinging doors, a piano‑playing chimp, and a lion fiddler trying to keep the town’s spirits afloat. Kit ordered whiskey “on the rocks” and, to everyone’s amusement, received literal rocks. George drifted to the poker table, Bully soaked in the music, and Corjan tried to brood in a shadowy corner before surrendering to a neat whiskey. The barkeep filled them in on the town’s troubles—mines closed, monsters prowling, and a dangerous creature at the center of two conflicting bounties: the sheriff wanted it dead, while Baron Destry wanted it kept alive.

Tension snapped when a gambler landed a cheap shot that sent Gentleman George crashing through a table. He rose like a thunderclap and knocked the man out cold. Kit reacted with the precision of a seasoned gunslinger, swinging up Ralph and firing two clean shots that felled the gambler’s lackeys before they could react. Corjan answered with a dazzling Rain of Blades, spectral steel arcing through the room and forcing everyone to duck. The gambler flipped a table to block the exit and bolted into the street; the barkeep, trying to intervene, was swept into the chaos. When the dust settled, the party stood amid splintered wood and scattered gold, the saloon patrons staring at the newcomers who had turned a petty quarrel into the most exciting thing Willens Gulch had seen all year.

Bruised and a little proud, the group collected themselves and accepted the barkeep’s grateful nods. They left the saloon with new information and a clearer sense of the danger beyond town—monsters, bounties, and whatever strange bargains lay between the sheriff and Baron Destry. That night they checked into a local hotel for a well‑earned long rest, patching wounds and sharpening plans. Whatever awaited them outside Willens Gulch, they were the kind of crew who would meet it head‑on: guns, lassos, magic, and gorilla strength ready.
